The Heart of the Collegiate Spirit

House System

Our House system is the cornerstone of the Whanganui Collegiate School experience. Each of our six Houses—four for boys (Selwyn, Grey, Hadfield, and Harvey) and two for girls (Bishops and Godwin)—fosters a strong sense of identity and belonging.

House Structure

Fiercely competitive yet deeply supportive, the Houses compete year-round in cultural, sporting, and academic events that inspire teamwork, resilience, and passion. This spirit binds boarders and day students alike, creating a vibrant and inclusive community.

Each House operates as a family unit, with older students guiding and inspiring younger ones. This fosters leadership, camaraderie, and support. Boarders come from across New Zealand’s rural and urban areas and around the globe, including countries like Germany, Thailand, Chile, and Japan, bringing a dynamic international perspective to our community.

Life Long Connections

At Whanganui Collegiate School, lifelong friendships are more than just a part of the journey—they are the defining moments that shape our students’ lives. Shared experiences, from the triumphs of House competitions to the quiet moments of encouragement during challenges, create bonds that endure well beyond school years. Here, friendships are built on shared laughter, mutual support, and a deep sense of belonging to a community that feels like family.
