Excellence

At Whanganui Collegiate School there is an expectation for excellence leading to our examination results being some of the best in the country. Our recent international graduates have gone on to study at universities in New Zealand, the USA, Australia and the UK as well as high ranking universities in the student’s home country.

Community and Care

We have young people from over 15 countries as part of our community.  International students live on site in one of six boarding houses. With three adult caregivers in each house and the support of the International Student Guardian, our pastoral care is second to none offering reassurance to our families.

We strive to integrate 170 years of tradition with the demands of 21st Century learning. We ensure that each child has the support they need as they face the challenges in front of them. International students achieve great things at Whanganui Collegiate School.

English Language

Learning English is the first major challenge for every student joining us from overseas. It allows them to study in mainstream academic classes, and to mix more freely with the New Zealand students. The ESOL team place students into mainstream as soon as they believe that they are ready. Regular testing and team meetings help inform discussions and decision making.

Staying Connected

Life at Whanganui Collegiate School is rich with tradition and community. Whether boarding or attending as a day student, every pupil becomes part of a supportive network that extends far beyond their school years.

With a strong focus on pastoral care, students thrive in an environment that values their well-being and development. The school’s house system and chapel foster lifelong connections and a sense of belonging, creating a vibrant community where students are encouraged to grow in character and spirit.

With the Anglican Faith providing our Special Character, our philosophy is underpinned by our five pillars: Academic Excellence; Sporting Achievement; Cultural Enrichment; Christian Fellowship andLifelong Friendships.

As a 7-day boarding school, our students are engaged not only during the week but also at the weekend. We have campus-wide wireless internet making it easy to keep in touch with family back home. We have an International Student Leader who represents the interests of our overseas students and arranges fun activities throughout the school year.

The International Team looks forward to welcoming your son or daughter to our multi-cultural campus and we encourage you to take a look at the movies on the website and to check out the School’s Facebook page to see just how busy and engaged our students are.
